I'm dreaming of a White Christmas... [Dec. 26th, 2009|09:58 am]

[music |Our Last Summer--ABBA]

...which we HAD BY THE WAY. My first White Christmas! We took photos.

It was a really lovely day--everything happened nicely. Lunch, as always, was tremendous--thank you Mum and bread sauce and sausages and bacon and turkey and sweet potatoes and brownies and ice-cream--and Santa was very generous (the presents Mum and Dad get us are from 'Santa'. We leave out whisky and cookies for him. Yeah, I know what you're thinking :P) I got a ginormous slab of Hotel Chocolat chocolate, something I could never have bought for myself. [info]maligreen got me a load of Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate mix (spotting a theme here?), and amongst loads of books I wanted, I was given a beautiful new dark blue dress and crimson leather gloves.

Fiona's present to me (the big one in the corner I was so excited about) turned out to be a Banksy print! I love his stuff. So that's going up at Uni :D

Mum loved her presents--the purple accessories--and I THINK Dad liked his, three packs of Starbucks coffee. Fiona was pleasantly surprised to have a bath pillow since she always uses a towel and it doesn't work at all, as well as the 'straightening hairbrush' and new eyeliner colour. Oh, Dad got Mum SO MUCH STUFF this year--he's a bit of an impulsive shopper. So she got a handbag, a new nightie, a new dressing gown, Royal Jelly, The Book of Don'ts for Wives (AND HUSBANDS, or she would have killed him), a ring tree, and I'm sure something else. It was so great to see the look on her face when she realised how spoiled she was getting.

And then we played Uno and watched Neil Gaiman's short film, and Gavin and Stacey. I won't go into how fucking weird Doctor Who was.

Very swift review.

Don't even need to put it behind a cut, because there's no spoiler space involved.

Man.

That was bollocks.

Get out of it, RTD. You've blown your last chance.

In other news, it's officially a white Christmas given how hard it's snowing out there...

[music |A Day, A Day of Glory--my head]

I'm allowed to get up in 8 minutes!

God, I'm such a child. Oh, it's because my bladder woke me up and I couldn't get back to sleep. I'll make Mum and Dad tea and coffee to soften the blow; but I really want to see what a) the big square present for me is (it's the biggest one under the tree!) and b) how they like their presents. I have the receipt for Mum's, but not for Dad's.

SEVEN MINUTES NOW!

I hope everyone reading this has a peaceful, contented day--SIX MINUTES--the best day of the season so far for me was yesterday. I made brownies for pudding today, almond and chocolate biscuits for Santa and the general family, reread Monstrous Regiment, watched The Snowman and Love Actually. FIVE MINUTES. The only thing that detracted from a great day was not having seen Kate yet or spoken to Josefin or Maggie. (Oh my GOD, my present from Josefin. 40 pages, with illustrations.)

Kate's facebook status is '4 days :)' I REALLY hope she's not going back so early to uni, which she can do FOUR MINUTES now she lives in her own house. I haven't seen her yet and she's been snowed in recently so no chance there. I really want to get in touch and have a gossip, and I was hoping I could use the January sales as an excuse THREE MINUTES for that.

Went to a carol service on the 20th. I am the worst atheist ever. Both me and my little sister did the descant for Hark The Herald Angels Sing--Dad looked very embarrassed, but the descants for both that and O Come All Ye Faithful TWO MINUTES are so easy it's hard NOT to sing them if you know them. I went caroling to help out some friends at my old school, actually, and everyone sang the descant come the last verse. By the end of a beautiful carol we were collapsed on the floor giggling ONE MINUTE. Great fun.

Okay, I hear someone coming down the stairs. Merry Christmas!

My sister squirted treacle on me this morning.

The day did not improve.

Busy [Dec. 18th, 2009|09:52 pm]

Sorry I haven't posted much--it's been a busy time here.

So when I got home from uni I installed myself at my computer and I'm singing away as usual, you know, la la la LAAAAAAAAAAAAAA as is my speciality, and Mum answered the door. I don't stop for company. At that time on a Sunday, they're probably Jehovah's Witnesses. So I keep on singing (Don't Rain on My Parade), and as I get to 'Hey Mr. AMSTEIN...here I AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM', the door bursts open and there stands the Pop Big Cheese, Simon Cowell.

Turns out his car'd broken down and so they had to ease their way into the village to escape the perils of the motorway, and our house is the nearest to the road. He was stunned. He kept saying 'it must be fate', as Mum made cups of coffee for him and his two PAs, and he offered to hammer me out a record deal.

Of course I said yes, and so for the past week I've been holed up in Confetti studios, demoing my little socks off. No time to LJ, but plenty to tweet from my phone. I'll open the next X-factor. You read it here first.

...I've really just come off antibiotics and trying to cope with the devilish stomach/back pain that's come with them. Mum's in Scotland, visiting Granny and Grandad. Dad's watching the second Space Odyssey, Fiona has friends round, I'm...reading the annotated Pratchett.

Long Time, No See, LJ. [Dec. 15th, 2009|08:30 am]

[mood | content]

Well, it's been a long time since I sat down and actively wrote anything in my LJ. It's not even as if I don't have anything to write about: life is packed to the gunwhales with activity. Maybe it's that which has made the difference. Who knows?

But I figured... given that it's my birthday in a couple of days and the end of the year in a couple of weeks, I'd try and pin some of my thoughts of 2009 down on 'paper'.

There we go. I finally did an update. I have today off work so that I can finally sort out my Christmas shopping.

Wish me luck!
